Another ship collision happened on Cebu City sea as Sulpicio Express 7 hits 2GO vessel causing the victim ship to sink.
According to authority reports, 2GO passenger vessel was hit on its starboard (right) side – a very critical part of the ship causing it to immediately sink.
Transportation and Communications Secretary Jun Abaya said that there was a violation to the vessel traffic separation scheme that is implemented on the sea.
“Ang nangyari talaga diyan ‘yung Sulpicio nabangga niya ‘yung 2GO vessel on its starboard quarters… Tinamaan niya sa kanan, bandang likuran,” – Abaya said on an interview.
A total of 629 have been rescued while 32 bodies have been recovered as of 9PM – August 17, 2013. Data came from Commodore William Melad of the Philippine Coast Guard-Visayas.
2GO, a passenger ship is carrying a total of 831 people, 715 of them are passengers while 116 where crew members.

Secretary Jun Abaya that a parallel investigations will be conducted by the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) and the fact-finding body of the Board of Marine Inquiry.
As of August 17, 2013 – 31 were confirmed dead while 171 are still missing.
